Irresponsible Knife Owner of the Day: Blitz Winge

I love my children. I’m proud of their gun safety. They know the four rules and they implement them methodically. As they do when handling knives. I think that’s key, whether you’re slinging lead downrange of throwing a blade. Parents should teach their children a process—and a suitable pace—for throwing, retrieving and carrying a knife. In this video the kids are in a hurry; the knives are gathered, held and handed-off quickly without a set technique. The video itself violates one of the most important rules for knife throwing: make sure everyone’s behind the thrower. Including Mom and her camera. (D’oh!) The first cut is the deepest. The longer you can put that off, the better.

  1. Egads, that’s a bit scary. I’ve had a few “severe misses” when throwing, most not resulting in grievous injury, and that’s when I quit and do something else for… about a few months.

The kids in the video are doing remarkably well as far as throwing is concerned, but as you mentioned, their handling skills should be “honed” a bit.
