CNN reports that the Transportation Safety Administration (a.k.a., George Bush’s blue shirted goons) have backed away from their plan to allow small knives onto airplanes. [Click here for the video.] In a statement released tonight the TSA said it “strongly values the input of our partners and traveling public and appreciates the varying points of view shared throughout the review process.” It wimped-out “after extensive engagement” with aviation advisers, law enforcement officials, and passenger advocates. So now . . .
the TSA will continue to enforce the “current prohibited items list which does not permit small knives.” The decision casts a pall–again, still—on the entire U.S. knife industry, which was decimated by the TSA’s original decision to ban all knives from civilian air travel.
Some people are wikkid pleased that millions of Americans will now remain knifeless in the air.
Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, applauded the TSA decision.
“When established processes for creating policy are followed, common sense prevails,” he said.
I guess we can all breathe a little easier knowing we’re safer because of the TSA’s acquiescence to illogical fears and political pressure. [/sarcasm]
