DKU of the Day: Woman scares off gunman with pocket knife.

indypolice

According to the Indianapolis Star, a local woman had a fortunate ending to a very bad walk home this week.  After first being scared witless by a man heckling her on a bicycle, she was grabbed by a man with a small handgun as she left a convenience store.

“The man then grabbed her arm and said, “I have a gun and you’re going to walk down here with me,” according to the report.

The man then led her south on LaSalle Street from 10th Street, with a small handgun pointed at her back. That’s when the woman took out a knife from her pocket and started swinging it at the man as she yelled, according to the report. The man then fled.”

Knife-fu does not usually beat Gun-fu. But desperation, surprise, and having a tool can be enough to change a tactical situation.  In most cases it is a gun being drawn that beats a knife, but not in this case. But in virtually every case, it is a predator discovering the hard way that the sheep has fangs and exits stage right. Or is sometimes made to exit permanently.

  1. I imagine there is a certain woman who will be looking into a CCW permit. Does anyone know if Indy is 2A friendly or is it the typical urban/blue model of failure?

These guys count on the cooperation of the victim. The last thing they want is any fuss or commotion until they get the victim to their special place. Fight back, even if it means death on the street. At least your family won’t have to spend years wondering what happened to you.

      This.

*Never* go with them to another location, *never* quietly cooperate.

        I’m inclined to agree.

  3. Aharon says:

A 30-year police veteran told or CC class that if someone tries to carjack us never to cooperate and to risk being shot and killed. He went on to say that in the PNW there are a number of people who have been kidnapped and used as slaves, rape and torture victims. I’m glad she fought back.

  4. Sam L. says:

If you’re within arm’s length of the bad guy, the knife surprise should work.
