Two gems of Old Country wisdom have been passed down from generation to generation here in the New World: “Don’t buy a sword from a Medieval Times theme restaurant,” grandfathers tell their young grandsons. “And if you have a daughter, don’t stab her with a sword.”
Juan Javier Lovine’s grandsires (and mother, pictured) apparently forgot to impart this crucial generational knowledge, because he flunked both parts of a very simple real-life quiz this weekend. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt…
The Orlando Sentinel has the details:
Lovine’s adult daughter — [Isabel] Rego’s granddaughter — was visiting from West Virginia with her son when father and daughter began arguing, Rego said.
“They just don’t get along,” she said.
The conflict escalated until Lovine, 44, pushed his daughter against the wall and hit her, said Sgt. Denise Roberts, a police spokeswoman. The daughter punched him in the eye in self-defense, and he stabbed her in the right forearm and chest with a 5-foot-long sword, Roberts said.
The unnamed daughter was treated for ‘non life-threatening’ injuries and released from a nearby hospital.
Lovines’ mother Isabel was arrested for interfering with police as they took her son into custody on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder. She says it’s all a misunderstanding, and that the police overreacted: “He didn’t mean to,” she said. “The police put in there [a report] that he tried to kill her. That is not true. He loves her. They just don’t get along.”
