Self-Defense Tip: Crowd Beats Knife, When They’re Mad Enough.

A knife greatly increases the odds of ‘winning’ a street fight but it’s no guarantee, especially against numerous determined adversaries. Sometimes this is bad, when a gang of aggressors overpowers a knife-armed defender. But sometimes this logic works in favor of the forces of good.

Last week in Greenville, SC a group of bystanders witnessed a stabbing in progress, nodded to each other, and simultaneously risked their lives to disarm and neutralize the perpetrator. The victim was rescued (and is recovering), the suspected attacker shown here was captured, and the rescuers were unharmed.

21 year-old East Carolina University student Rachel Cooper was attacked without warning by a stranger with a knife, and suffered several knife wounds before several Good Samaritans rushed to her aid.

Allen Elmore, Anthony Turner, James Gronwoldt and Trey Brenner swarmed the attacker and immobilized the knife, and when he kept going for the blade they beat the living shit out of him. Suspected attacker Jacob Hollingsworth was arrested for Assault With A Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury and held on $200,000 bond. In a bizarre twist, he’s an active-duty USAF airman, and he was celebrating his 23rd birthday the night of the attack.

Elmore and his friends told reporters they were glad to be in the right place at the right time, and that they would “100%” do it again.

WYFF News has a brief video report here.

I suspect that guy will be a dishonorably discharged ex-Airman, soon.

  2. jwm says:

    I’m 23 today, I know, I’ll celebrate by murdering a total stranger.

Jeebus, Mary and Jobus you can’t make shit like this up.

  3. Paul B says:

I would question the stranger part. Air Force does not usually being out the inner beast.

But definitely high on the strange case meter.

Well, it’s an odd one, but he was a specialist with a fighter squadron, which can be an incredibly high stress job. I remember a squadron-wide drug test at seven in the morning on a Sunday because an avionics guy from my flight got caught smoking crack downtown.

I like the part where “they beat the living shit out of him.”

well, its all part of the 3 ways to deal with violent behavior. 1st is redirect, 2nd is restrain, 3rd is knock some sense(less) into them.

when the first 2 don’t work, repeat 3 until desired results have been achieved.
