If you’ve got a relative like Billy Varner, don’t visit him if you’ve got a chest cold. He’s not a doctor, but he might try and cure it for you.
With a machete.
Antioch, Illinois authorities believe that 54 year-old Varner, shown above, killed his wife with a machete after he heard her wheezing in her sleep. He decided to end her suffering, so he chopped her head most of the way off and then stabbed her in the chest with a knife to make sure she was dead.
His crazy train was still steaming along a few days later when he allegedly murdered his own mother after she became suspicious. He then went on an interstate flight from justice and robbed a North Dakota church service at gunpoint. Amazingly he was taken alive by police, and he was returned to Illinois to face murder charges.
The Chicago Sun-Times takes it from here:
Lake County State’s Attorney Michael Nerheim said Varner heard his wife wheezing at their apartment on Oct. 26 and decided it was time to end her suffering.
He entered their bedroom with a machete and attacked 61-year-old Peggy Henderson, landing several brutal blows and nearly severing her head before repeatedly stabbing her with a knife to make sure she was dead, Nerheim said.
Later in the day, Varner’s brother visited but not suspect anything, prosecutors said. Varner told the brother that Henderson was lying down because she was felt ill, prosecutors said.
However, when the brother visited the apartment later that weekend, he thought it odd that Henderson still did not emerge from the couple’s room, prosecutors said.
…By Monday, Varner feared his live-in mother was also growing suspicious, prosecutors said. So he decided to kill her too, allegedly suffocating 82-year-old Dorothy Varner with a plastic bag on Oct. 28, they said.
Prosecutors say Varner then stole his brother’s van and headed for North Dakota, where he was arrested Saturday after police say he barged in on a Catholic mass and robbed parishioners at gunpoint.
Here’s a crime that the gun-control crowd won’t want to talk about because he killed more people with a plastic bag than he did with a gun. There are no dangerous weapons, only dangerous people.
