Kershaw Factory Sale Swag (And Yet More EDC For CCW): Kershaw Blur S30V

The Blur is one of prolific designer Ken Onion’s patterns which doesn’t look like a bigger/smaller/curvier/boxier Leek. With no disrespect intended to the Leek/Scallion/Chives of this world (because I almost bought several of them), this is why I like the Blur so much.

With looks that won’t scare the pants off any knife Muggles, the Blur is a casual EDC knife instead of an all-out tactical EDC like the Zero Tolerance 0350. But it’s fast and comfortable and it cuts like nobody’s business.

Most of these US-made assisted openers are sold with 3 3/8″ 14C28N blades, but this one wears S30V supersteel. It was almost scary sharp from the factory…and God help me if it ever gets really dull because S30V is insanely hard to sharpen.  The scales are anodized aluminum with rubbery texture panels, and the pocket clip is reversible for tip-up or tip-down (but not terribly deep) right-side carry.

Street price for this bad boy is about $90, but I paid just $39 at the annual Kershaw factory sale. Stay tuned for the full review.

  1. S30V is great. I had a Microtech Ultratech in S30V, sold it after about a year of ownership. It was about as sharp as the day I bought it (sharp!!). I didn’t cut through any trees or anything though, so YMMV.

  2. I own both the S30V and the 14C28N versions and love them both. My 14C28N blade has the black DLC coating and so is just a bit more “tactical”. Both blade steels are fabulous, and hold a really badass edge. I don’t even know how long they hold the edge because I always keep them touched up on a diamond hone, just so the thugs around here know I care… I carry other knives as well, but there is almost always one of my Blurs in my pocket, ready to go.

  3. That’s been my EDC for the last several years. Very happy with it. You could shave with it out of the box (and I did, just to see if I could, heh) and it’s retained the majority of that edge despite the daily use and abuse I’ve given it.

It’s kinda big in some pockets, but other than that, I really like it.
