Entry #1

Our Facebook Cover Photo Contest has come to an end. I think it was a great success. Thank you to all who entered.

I am not going to keep a strict tally of votes, just let us know your thoughts in the Comment section. We will see where the discussion ends up.

As it turns out, the prize closet is bare. So I am going to run out to Smoky Mountain Knife Works’ store in Sevierville, TN and buy a $25 gift certificate for the winner.

On a totally unrelated note, here is where I was today.

Here is what I was doing.

Big fish of the day.

When I am not playing the role of Mr. Mom, I am running my guide service Smoky Mountain Gillies. To justify this shameless plug for my gig that pays the bills, I will tie it into the purpose of the blog thusly…

I used this silicon impregnated merino wool pad from Rusty’s Rags to wipe down my Mora Bushcraft after fishing. I know that a review of the kit has been a long time coming, but I wanted to finish testing the kit under the real world conditions on which I use it. I completed my final testing this afternoon. A full review will be published shortly.

By the way, you can follow me on Facebook or Twitter at @MountainGillie. If you ever find yourself in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, please give me a call. I would love to show you a great time on the river.

Copperhead swam by me crossing the river. I almost filled my waders.

  1. For what it’s worth, here’s the lineup for the first 2 pics.
Top of T in first pic is an Al Mar jumbo quicksilver atop a Glock knife.
(Second is a SOG Twitch II atop the Glock)
Next T is a Case XX boot hunter atop an Al Mar Tanken (second pic is atop an Emerson folder)
The “A” – left side is an Al Mar Huntsman, right side is an Al Mar Passport, middle is an Al Mar ” wild hair” comb dagger.
The “K” starts with a Soviet AK-47 switchblade bayonet.
Top leg is a William Henry titanium with wave Damascus blade.
Bottom leg is a Criswell hunting knife.

    Good blades, all.

  2. I find #7 the most visually appealing, but would vote for 1 or 5 for a legible logo. Of the two, I vote for number five’s keyboard motif. If you wanted to lay text over or near something, #7 would still be awesome.

EDIT: somehow I skipped seeing #14! I place that second to #5.

  3. #1, then #5. This is about knives generally, pretty much all knives, so knives with brands prominently displayed ought not be in it. YMMV.

  4. first choice would be 5, second would be 14.

All of them were way better then any of my ideas, so good job to everyone!

  5. #5, then #14.
The big fish of the day looks absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to get back into the Colorado mountains with my Walmart special fly rod!
