Details are still emerging as the news broke overnight in the US, but there has been an apparent knife massacre in Australia. Eight children, ranging in age from 18 months old to 15 years were discovered dead by an older sibling (one child was a cousin) along with his mother who is alive but has suffered multiple stab wounds.
There are no indications that this is related in any way to the Sydney Jihadist attack earlier this week. Police are insisting that the public is not in any danger, but are not elaborating. I find this curious for several reasons.
As I said, the police are adamant that the public is not in danger. (From AP report on KnoxNews.com🙂
“He said he didn’t believe there was a multiple murderer still at large and that police were talking to the woman. Asked if she was a suspect, he said officials have not yet identified any suspects and were questioning everyone who had contact with the family in the past 2-3 days.
“As it stands at the moment, there’s no need for the public to be concerned about this other than the fact that it’s a tragic, tragic event,” Asnicar said. “The situation is well controlled at the moment. There shouldn’t be any concern for anyone else out of this environment.”
That being said, they have not mentioned a suspect in custody, a deceased suspect, or any other reason they are so confident this is the case. It is just a hunch on my part, based on reading several different articles at this point, but I think the mother might have gone postal on her children before attempting suicide. Again, this is just speculation, but it is the only thing that fits the reports. Regardless it is a tragic situation.
