BLADE Show 2015: CRKT Mid-Year Releases

crkt-booth-blade-show-2015

Of all the big manufacturers who released new models at BLADE Show 2015, Columbia River Knife & Tool brought some of the most. CRKT is known for bringing models from famous designers to a more affordable market space, and this year is no exception. I snagged a bunch of photos, so without further ado, let’s jump right in.

crkt-ken-onion-onslaught

As soon as I saw the CRKT Outrage, I knew it was a Ken Onion design; that blade shape was a dead giveaway! It flips open nicely and it is designed to be a “sophisticated everyday carry blade.” Handles are machined aluminum, and the flipper rides on an IKBS ball bearing pivot.

crkt-torreya

When we first visited the booth, the CRKT Torreya caught my eye rather quickly, calling to mind classic drop point hunting fixed blades. This one was designed by Steve Jernigan to work like a fixed blade hunter in a more pocketable package. I like the micarta handle scales which should be a boon when skinning and it is nice to see a folder in a color other than black!

crkt-sting-3b

The CRKT Sting 3B is classic A.G. Russell! The smallest Sting ever made, the package should be easily concealable. The sheath features a removable spring clip that is reversible for tip up or tip down carry. The two prongs at the top snap into the cut out in the knife handle. Any boot knife fans out there?

crkt-viva

No stranger to making widgets other than knives, the CRKT Viva is another in the trend of small, single piece multi-tools. Designed by Liong Mah, the Viva boasts a prybar, flathead screwdriver, bottle opener, and a multi-wrench (5 different sizes, ¼” hex on the large end). The open loop serves as a hook to hang the tool from a belt-loop, or to facilitate a wrap.

CRKT have also reissued three variants of the original M-16 in tribute to its designer, Kit Carson, who passed away last fall. Dubbed the M-16 Classic, it is the only current M-16 that features aluminum handles and the LAWKS secondary safety lock.

CRKT is pumping out some awesomeness in the last year. I just picked up the CRKT G.S.D. designed by liong mah and it is so awesome. I picked up the CRKT Ikoma Fossil last year, and it is still the best blade for the money in my opinion.

That Outrage by Ken Onion looks amazing, and if it flips half as good as it looks…Im gonna have to get one. The milling pattern in that aluminum is amazing. Normally the aluminum would turn me off immediately because i despise how slick it is, but with all that awesome milling id say it’s got a pretty positive grip.

Also i cant wait for the BT-70 to release, because that Bob Terzuola design is awesome, and i need it.

Also I really think it’s cool that they are releasing the “classic” M16 design, im assuming its in memory of the late Kit Carson.
