BLADE Show 2015: Gary Wines Bushcrafter by L.T. Wright Knives

One of the new products unveiled by L.T. Wright Knives at BLADE Show 2015 was the Bushcrafter by Wines Quality Knives, a knife designed in England by former SAS armorer Gary Wines. The knife will be made in L.T.’s shop and available in America. Made to the same standards as any other knife he makes, the Gary Wines Bushcrafter should be just as hardy and handy as the subjects I have reviewed here (GNS/Rogue River).

Gary Wines has applied his experiences in the SAS to his knife design, first designing knives for military purposes only. He has only recently started designing knives with the civilian market in mind, namely bushcraft, survival and hunting. In order to make his designs more widely available, he needed to expand beyond the shop in Sheffield that was making his knives, and that is where LTWK comes in.

The Gary Wines Bushcrafter is a design that has recieved a stamp of approval from John “Lofty” Wiseman, author of the SAS Survival Handbook. The shape reminds me a bit of the PLSK2, a knife formerly made in L.T.’s Blind Horse Knives days.

As I said, the knife is made just like any other LTWK product and that means the scales (bead blasted micarta in this case) and handle pins are all connected to the blade with high strength epoxy and you get a nice oversized lanyard hole in the pommel. The spine of the knife is also squared off to help with scraping tasks and striking a ferrocerium rod. A JRE Industries leather sheath with dangler attachment and ferro rod loop is included.

I put a ruler on one of the knives at the show and got some measurements for you.

Steel: 5/32” O1
Blade Length (tip to scale): 4 ½”
Sharpened Length: 4 ¼”
Overal Length: 8 ⅞”
Grind: Scandi with secondary micro-bevel from final polishing

Introductory price on these is $195.
