I really like how Kershaw goes all out in their combinations of steel and scales. Nathan has written about the Skyline and the myriad color options available. Knives like the Leek are available in multiple steel options including Sandvik, S30v, and even a composite welded Sandvik/D2 blade.

Kershaw is adding a new steel to their Leek line – the “super-steel” Elmax.

Elmax is a Swedish steel, meant for high-wear/cold-use steel which can be hardened up to 62HRC. It has excellent corrosion resistance and is especially suited for folding knives as it can become brittle in larger blades.

Personally, I think that the wider profile of my new Pop’s clip might look really sharp against the tan aluminum scales. I might need to buy 2 new Leeks now.

If you would like to pick up an Elmax Leek, they are available from BladeHQ for $74.95.

I was just wondering how this compares in durability and edge retention to the d2 blade of the composite leek.

    1. I am supposed to be receiving an Elmax knife from First Edge soon. While obviously not a Leek, I will at least be able to give you an impression.
