Police have surrounded a Virgin Mobile store in Portsmouth, England

Initial reports are always sketchy and often wrong, but the UK Mirror is reporting that a man who was possibly irate at his cell phone bill is holding 3 hostages in a Portsmouth, England Virgin Mobile store.

“An armed siege is under way at a mobile phone shop after a man allegedly entered with a knife and held three people inside.

Police have surrounded the store in Portsmouth and are currently attempting to negotiate with the man, who is said to have entered the Virgin Media shop earlier today.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the knifeman’s fury may have been sparked by an unusually high phone bill.

Those caught up inside have reportedly been released.

A Facebook post from Spotted Portsmouth said: “A machete-wielding maniac has sparked a major hostage situation in the centre of Portsmouth’s Commercial Road.

“A man armed with a machete entered the Virgin Media store in Commercial Road at lunchtime caused mayhem before taking four hostages.

“The man was said to be irate over a recent, large phone bill from the telecommunications firm.”

We will keep you posted as more information becomes available. People joke about going nuts while assembling IKEA furniture or flipping out over a cell phone bill. In the abstract it is mildly amusing. In real life, not so much. Hopefully this ends safely for everyone.
