I gave up trying to find my Leek…

IMG_9839

I came to grips with the fact that my old one was lost for good and bought a new one on sale from Amazon.

It was several months ago that my D2 Composite Kershaw Leek disappeared. Vanished without a trace. I kept expecting that it would randomly turn up when I was looking for my car keys or something. But alas, it didn’t.

However, in the course of browsing some other items on Amazon I saw that it was on sale for $74 (MSRP $129). I decided to pull the trigger. Not for a stocking stuffer, sorry David, but for myself. It arrived this afternoon.

It felt like an old friend in the hand. I missed the clean, clear “snick!” sound it makes when deploying.

I have mentioned how much I loved my Pop’s Custom Clip on my old Leek. I had mentioned in passing to John (Pops) that I had lost my Leek and was planning on getting a new one. A couple of days later another titanium clip arrived at my door gratis.

Within 10 minutes of my new knife arriving, I was out in the shop swapping out the clip. The clip that I was sent was thicker than the previous one, which isn’t much of a problem, but the deep carry loop was too deep for my liking. I ordered my original one tonight with my own money. I feel strongly about his products, (I also have one on my Benchmade Mini-grip) and figured $20 was a small price to pay to support a small business that had already been so good to us. John had also donated a clip to one of our Essay Contest winners as well.

The wider deep carry clip is about 1/8″ deeper than the “stealth” clip from Pop’s. It is still better than stock, but I ordered “stealth” clip like I used to have.

I want to end by saying I appreciate everyone’s patience with the drop off in posts the last week. As I mentioned the other night, my kids have been battling ear infections, amoxicillin reactions, something called parainfluenza apparently, fevers, puking, and more. I have been essentially home-schooling my 7 year old since we picked up her work. I  simply haven’t had time during the day to write as much as I would like and you all have come to expect. Topping it off, after 3 weeks of caring for sick kids my defenses are cracking and I have a fever of 102 as I am typing. I am packing it in for the night.

Thanks folks.

  1. my leek is sidelined due to the torsion bar spring (heavily glorified paper clip) breaking. i flip it open often even while driving.
kai is sending me a replacement gratis. we’ll see if they include the torx bits and tool that others have said they received.
