Video: Diresta’s latest time lapse, Chef’s knife from start to finish

An insanely hypnotic .gif from Popular Mechanics and Jimmy DiResta

Jimmy Diresta’s videos are among the best out there, in subject, content and production value. We have previously featured his restoration of a draw knife. In his latest video project for Makezine.com, Diresta shows the entire process of making a stock-removal kitchen knife, from billet to finished product.

Video below the jump:

The more of these I watch, the closer I get to wanting to take the plunge and start making knives. Because my wife wouldn’t kill me if I added another hobby to the list, would she? I spent 4 hours making sawdust and Christmas gifts today.

I’d prefer a higher point for more rocker on that knife. Not that I could/would afford it. Regardless, it’s a beauty!

  2. dph says:

I liked it right up to the handle, then he lost me. It’s way to fat.

    1. Henry says:

      Same here. Too fat blade

  3. Scott says:

Yeah the blade is way to thick for my taste but it looks great
