After the gravity of the past week, I needed to lighten things up a bit. A tip of the hat to my faithful
henchman sidekick David who dropped the following story in my inbox. Not only is it cool on its face, it is a rare example of positive knife coverage in the normally hoplophobic UK media.
A tiny baby deer who lost its mum like Disney’s Bambi has been saved by a man who performed a roadside caesarean section – using only a POCKET KNIFE.
Sean Steele was on his way to visit family when he saw a mortally wounded deer on the road.
But when he got closer, he saw a tiny hoof sticking out of her tummy and realised that the animal was heavily pregnant.
The farmer and steelworker from Barrhead in British Columbia, says he grabbed his pocket knife from the dashboard of his truck intending to put the animal down.
But when he dragged her to the side of the busy highway, she had already expired.
then he realised he could still save the little one.
“I just cut it open and pulled the fawn out,” Mr Steele told Metro News .
“It was alive but it wasn’t really breathing, so I stuffed some grass up its nose, cleaned out its mouth — got all that slime out of there — and it started breathing.
The animal has been named Friday and has been turned over to an animal sanctuary. Steele scoffs at the fuss that is being made.
“I hunt and fish and live on a farm, so it’s not really a big deal.”
