If you are standing in opposition to an issue that unites the NAACP, The Village Voice, the editorial board of the New York Times, with the National Rifle Association, you should consider yourself an outlier. However,  Mayor DerpBlasio and his Police Commissioner are obtuse enough to double-down on stupid. They, along with District Attorneys from the various boroughs, have sent a letter to Governor Cuomo urging him to veto legislation that passed the NY State Senate unanimously.

From NY Daily News:

In an Oct. 7 letter obtained by the Daily News, Mayor de Blasio and Police Commissioner James O’Neill said if the bill is approved it will add to the increase in knife assaults this year and harm the NYPD’s efforts, through Operation Cutting Edge, to reduce such attacks.

“Legalizing gravity knifes at this juncture would be antithetical to these efforts,” the letter said, “and would have a chilling impact on the ability to rein in this criminal activity.”

The letter cited as the most extreme example the 2012 gravity knife attack against Officer Eder Loor, who was stabbed in the skull in Manhattan and has never fully recovered.

In addition to de Blasio and O’Neill, the letter was signed by the heads of all five police unions and four district attorneys. Staten Island DA Michael McMahon urged a veto in an earlier letter sent to the governor.

If the bill gets signed, it will end NYC’s shakedown of otherwise innocent residents and visitors.  There is civil forfeiture money to be made.  The city’s criminal-justice Leviathan needs to be fed.

  1. If the bill is vetoed, Judge Forrest in the Federal District court will render her decision. I wager that it will be to strike down the existing law.

  2. Notice the reasons they give for not wanting this passed. Look a whole bunch like the gun side of the argument. Blood in the streets and all that. Funny thing about that is, none of it happens the way they predict. Notice also the criminal use of a knife as a medium for restricting everyone else. It appears hoplophobia is quite real and on display here.
