TOPS Knives first 2017 release: The I.C.E. Dagger

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, not Christmas…it is knife debut season. With SHOT Show coming next week, companies are unleashing a blitz of publicity in advance of the colossal trade show. Robert, Dan, and Nick will be making a few visits to knife booths between ogling reporting on all of the firearms, and we will pass along their findings.

TOPS is different than most knife companies as they don’t release all of their new products at once. Throughout the year, they release their new knives one or two models at a time. Whether this is due to the production capacity of a smaller company, the desire to be different in their marketing strategy, or most likely a combination of both, the net effect is that they don’t have their entire year’s designs get lost in the shuffle.

Their first 2017 release is the I.C.E. Dagger, which was actually unveiled at last years SHOT Show. It looks like one heck of a last-ditch personal defense weapon, with its karambit-style finger loop and reinforced dagger-point.

In Case of Emergency – The I.C.E. Dagger was designed with law enforcement and military personnel in mind. It will serve as a backup blade in case their firearm is inoperable or inaccessible. The ICE Dagger’s compound grind combines a ferociously strong tip with an edge that slices through flesh and material effortlessly. It is comfortable in forward and reverse grips. The finger ring aids in rapid deployment and retention of the blade and has contours to maximize its ability to be used as an impact weapon. Add in a smartly designed Kydex sheath that provides multiple carry options and it’s easy to see why this knife will be popular.

    2 short 2 heavy 2 bulky

I’m sorry, this is a rip off. Its a trend now, all these brands producing their own last ditch knife. But this is just ridiculous. Look at la bad TDIs. Excellent knives of more budget based quality and price. Then look at the benchmark SOCP dagger great knife, but already steap price so that anyone who was interested really had to think about it and decide if its worth it before buying. Especially in the case of the SOCP because its a skeleton model and you’re just getting the tang. And Spartan knives already store the SOCP. Now tops introduces this. Its certainly impressive, but all they did was take a knife similar to many others and slap handle scales on it, then jacked the price up $100. That’s like me wrapping duct tape around my axe handle and saying its worth 50 more bucks. SMH tops, what are you doing?

  3. Hannibal says:

Any knife of that size (i.e. not tiny) marketed to cops or first responders might as well have a window break nub on it. Could add a little umph to a strike, as well.
