Knife Rescue: Firefighters use knife to free Ohio woman from boa constrictor

A Sheffield Township (OH) woman called 911 when a 5 foot boa constrictor latched onto her nose and began wrapping itself around her leg. (jump to the bottom to listen to a somewhat amusing 911 call).

From Chroniclet.com:

“I’ve never heard of this before,” the dispatcher can be heard saying to emergency responders. When firefighters arrived, the woman was lying in her driveway with the snake around her neck, authorities said.

“It was wrapped around her neck and biting her nose and wouldn’t let go,” Fire Chief Tim Card said. “They had to cut its head off with a knife to get it to let go of her face.”

Card said a pocket knife was used to kill the snake, which the woman told authorities was 5ᄑ feet long.

Card said firefighters disposed of the snake in a garbage bin near Sheffield Lake City Hall after it was dead.

I carried a Gerber multitool in my turnout gear back when I when I was a firefighter. I never needed to use it to sever the head from a snake.

  1. Sam L. says:

It’s not why I carry a knife or three all the time, but I do follow the BSA motto to Be Prepared.

  2. Hannibal says:

I would say that no first responder ever goes to work thinking that he might have to cut a snake off a woman. Except maybe in Florida.
