From Man at Arms: Forging the Hattori Hanzo “Kill Bill” Katana

Do yourself a favor and carve 19 minutes out of your week at some point to watch this video. If you are at all interested in the process of forging a katana, in this case modeled off the one wielded by Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, you want to watch this video from MAN at ARMS: Reforged. In it they start with the smelting of the tamahagane in the traditional manner, refining the bloom, and through the process of folding both high and low carbon steels into separate billets, forge welding them in the San Mai style, etc., all the way to a finished and beautiful sword.

If you A) only have 10 minutes, B) Can’t get enough of that sweet, sweet tamahagane action, or C) just like to watch Walter Sorrells at work, check out this video too.
