Nightly Knife Porn: Cruising for Kepharts

I’ve been on a Kephart kick lately. Something about seeing one of the remaining two originals earlier this year has stuck with me. Let’s see what Instagram has on offer for us tonight!

First, the original! Horace’s personal knife.

The only other original Kephart is this Colclesser Bros. knife belonging to Ethan Becker

And a little more history.

Nice leatherwork!

Our own Jake Middleton is a big fan of ML Knives. With a look like this, it is easy to see why.

Condor sells a Kephart knife blank that makes an excellent platform for home projects!

Here is a Condor factory Kephart. I love the lettering on the book. Reminds me of Tolkein!

Forged 3V anyone?

Pocket dump!

Forging and feathersticks

Any idea what steel was used for the original Kepharts?

    1. I don’t know. But Mike McCArter is doing a run with reclaimed 1910s steel from a saw blade I believe. It will be pretty close.

    2. In my conversations with Ethan, he tells me they suspect it is what was referred to as “shears steel,” – literally a steel used to make shears and scissors, and ought to be similar to 1095.
