“A knife –– produced by W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. –– featuring World Trade Center steel was unveiled at a special event held Friday at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City.
Lt. Gen. John F. Mulholland Jr., a senior officer in the U.S. Army and former associate director of the Central Intelligence Agency for Military Affairs, commissioned the Bradford Township-based manufacturer to craft a knife honoring America’s heroes. The knife, titled September 11 Memorial V-42, is a limited-production World War II-era military knife.
“We are extremely humbled that Lt. Gen. Mulholland invited Case to be part of this powerful project,” said George Duke, owner, W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. “Throughout our nearly 130 year history, Case has been proud to be a quality American-made company with the privilege of working alongside some of the finest people our country has to offer, and we are honored to present these V-42s as a small token of our collective appreciation for the sacrifices made every day by members of our military and first responders.”
A 22-year-old man walking in South Peoria on Thursday night turned the tables on a man pointing a knife at him by punching the assailant in the face, according to a Peoria police report.
The victim told police that he was walking in the 2100 block of West Butler Street just after 8 p.m. Thursday when a man appeared around the side of a bush and took out a pocketknife. The man with the knife pointed it at the victim and demanded “everything he had,” according to the report.
The victim responded by punching the assailant in the face, which caused the knife-wielding man to flee. He then told police that he found the pocketknife on the ground near the bush, according to the report.

OBJECT OF DESIRE?
THAT IS A TENDER STEAK:
Howdy folks. I took about a 36 hour break after finishing my review of the ESEE Junglas 2. Writing 2000+ words and arranging dozens of photos is exhausting, and I needed a night off. I guided during the day yesterday, and I had the chance to go out and be social last night.
I went to see the blues duo 46 Long, one half of which (Blake Taylor) is a fraternity Brother from Kenyon. The other member is Jonathan Reynolds, who happens to be the brother of a certain UT Law professor – the legendary Instapundit Glenn Reynolds. After years of correspondence, I finally met the Blogfather (and a random photobomber).
This isn’t from last night, but is from one of their shows at Arnold’s in Cincinnati.
Not particularly on topic, but you all have responded favorably to a couple of musical suggestions in the past. The Blogfather has been extremely supportive in referring traffic our way via Instalanche, and so I thought it relevant enough.
BACKGROUND ON THE COVER PHOTO:
As I mentioned, I guided yesterday. The water was high and the weather cold and rainy, so the fish were only somewhat cooperative. But any day on the river beats the alternatives 9 times out of 10.
The ESEE PR4 is designer Patrick Rollins’ modern take on the venerable Kephart knife. Horace Kephart roamed the very streams and hills I work on as a flyfishing guide, and it just feels right to be carrying this knife in its Native habitat.
