DENVER KNIFEMAKER HAYDEN KESSEL PROFILED IN 5280 MAGAZINE:
The avid outdoorsman, home cook, and woodworker made his first knife in 2014. While studying art at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, he was drawn to the idea of “designing something functional—in art school, I painted all of these portraits and still-lifes, which just sit in a closet. I originally wanted to make heavy-duty camping knives that would hold up better than the ones I’d wrecked in the backcountry over the years, but I transitioned to kitchen knives because people use them more frequently, and their designs have a richer history and tradition.”
NINTH GRADE GIRLS INVOLVED IN KNIFE FIGHT AT BAY AREA SCHOOL:
One of the girls had pulled out a folding knife during an argument and tried to use it on the other teen, according to the Facebook post.
The fight was broken up by two staff members at the school in Columbia, authorities said. Those staff members, who were not identified by police, suffered minor injuries and were examined by paramedics.
The two staff members didn’t need to be taken to a hospital, and no one was seriously hurt, police said.

NATIONAL FELONS LEAGUE UPDATE: Ex-Cowboy kills girlfriend by slashing her throat...
The 46-year-old allegedly sliced his wife’s neck and then crawled on the ground outside their rented Utah home in the Park Regency in Park City before flagging down a police officer, officials said.
McClanahan initially told officers he, his wife and baby had been attacked, but investigators found no evidence of a break-in or an infant at the property.
His wife’s body was found in the apartment he had rented after someone else at the building called 911, saying he was crawling low to the ground through the hallways and calling for help.
The bloody scene showed Keri put up a desperate struggle before she was killed.

Getting onto this evening, I have been hard at work doing the final testing and photography for my review of the Hogue X5 flipper. One of the things I did this evening was the corrugated cardboard test, where the CPM 154 blade held its edge through 325 linear feet of cardboard.
Look for the review to go live early next week.

I’M GLAD SMOKY MOUNTAIN KNIFE WORKS IS RIGHT IN MY BACKYARD: Southeast Texas knife store becomes regional tourist destination…
Tucked away in the small town along pine-embraced Farm Road 92, Mott’s Texas Knives and Collectibles has become a destination for knife collectors. It’s one of the reasons Spurger was declared the Knife Capital of Texas in a resolution sponsored by state lawmakers James White and Robert Nichols and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott.Head-high, glass-fronted oak cases displaying more than 3,000 knives, including 1,750 from W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co., fill half the store. In the rest of the space, the utilitarian vies with the eclectic in a general-store miscellany of hardware, feed, auto parts and gourmet foods and coffee. Olive oil, balsamic vinegar and whole bean coffee are sold in bulk near jars of pickles, salsas and pickled quail eggs.
