Tactical Knife Invitational

There is a small “sideshow” of high-end tactical knifemakers which comes at the tail-end of the SHOT Show. Called the Tactical Knife Invitational, it is limited to 250 collectors, and features some of the top knife designers in the game.

From the Tactical Knife Invitational Facebook Page:

The Tactical Knife Invitational aims to provide discerning collectors with the opportunity to purchase quality, handcrafted knives from the world’s top knifemakers, all within a personal and relaxed atmosphere.

The TKI is not open to the public. Collector Passes are limited to 250. Only those who have purchased a pass in advance are allowed admission into the show.

COLLECTOR PASS RESERVATIONS ARE CURRENTLY FULL.
Please email or call to be placed on the wait list.

I became aware of the event through facebook postings from Allen Elishewitz, Les George, and Jens Anso. They have been posting Works In Progress for a couple of weeks now. The makers really bring their “A” game. The show is as much to show off to their peers as it is to sell knives. Consequentially, the knives are photogenic to say the least.
I wouldn’t mind adding this Elishewitz Knife to my collection…

Another Origin for TKI tomorrow. This one has ZircoTi bolsters and mother-of-pearl scales. #elishewitzknives #tki2018 #grailknife #knifecollector #knifesale #tetralock

Or these from Les George…

I don’t know McGinnis Knives, but I would like to…

A little angular for my taste…

This is some crazy pattern-welding…

Pokey…

I love the traditional handle on this flashy blade…

I love the classy look of this one…

Those scales are more typical of a fixed blade. I like them on this folder…

Knife noir…

This table could fund a year of college…

Left Knife or Right Knife?

Wheel of Death…

TKI lineup. See you there! #terzuola #customknives #tactical #tki2018 #usnfollow #knifestagram

I want to close with a personal thank you to all who left kind words regarding the passing of my Labrador, Billie Holiday.

Thank you all for your patience as I took the night off last night. Today was particularly tough as it was the first “normal” day since Billie died. Yesterday was all about keeping the kids active and distracted. Today I dropped the kids off at school and she wasn’t there barking at my return. There is a giant void next to me as I type. A dog bed sits empty along with a piece of me. I am not the blubbery mess I was Saturday evening, rather the ache is just deep and raw.

The superficialness of a Knife Porn post was about all I could handle tonight. I will be back to speed tomorrow. I have some freelance work to do for Mark Zalesky, and this should provide me the momentum to hit the ground running for TTAK as well. Thanks for bearing with me.

Reader Pat Carver left the following quote that I wanted to single out:

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”

That and this quote from Billy Graham have both really hit the mark for me.

“God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in heaven, and if it takes my dog being there, I believe he’ll be there”.

The cartoon brought tears to my eyes. I saw a sticker on a car that said, “A dog is the only family you get to choose.” But as I said earlier, our dog picked us.

I feel like cats generally get more choice in the matter, but let’s not turn it into an argument. A pet is part of the family.

I didn’t post before because I couldn’t stop myself from going into specifics and turning it into an essay. So, I’ll just say, in the past six or seven years, I’ve lost two cats and a dog, even if I was only actively living with one when it happened. I’ve also gained a cat in the meantime, and a new pet is not a replacement for any of the others.

Just like any other loved one, keep them in your heart, and they will live with you. Tell others of their greatness, and they will live on, to whatever small degree, through them.

  2. My wife and I were joking that Billie will always be with us when we vacuum or wear fleece.

  3. John F. MacMichael says:

For words of sorrow at the loss of a beloved dog, none spoke truer than Kipling:

“There is sorrow enough in the natural way
    From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.”

    “The Power of the Dog.”

    1. I love Kipling. Thank you.
