NYPD Officers shot and wounded a homeless shoplifter who charged them with a knife on Saturday evening. The perp has subsequently been charged with several crimes including attempted assault on a police officer.

From NY Daily News:

Michael Vasquez, 28, allegedly caused a wild scene in the Whole Foods on W. 125th St. and Malcolm X Blvd. before police arrived Saturday night, running into a bathroom with a security guard right behind him, witnesses told the Daily News.

When police confronted him at about 8:30 p.m., he pulled out a knife and charged at the officers, ignoring several commands to drop his weapon, police said. One officer fired two shots, hitting Vasquez once in the shoulder, according to cops. Medics took him to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.

On Sunday, police charged Vasquez, who lives on Wards Island, with attempted assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon and petit larceny.

1 hit in 2 shots and no bystanders hit. That is a steller result for NY’s Finest.

The perp has a lengthy record, but mostly petty theft and other minor charges. Nothing as dramatic as a knife charge on a couple of cops.

If the one with the knife is within 20 feet of you, and I’d guess that restroom is about that size, you’re likely to get stabbed or slashed.
