Another Day, another NYC Subway-Slashing.

NEW YORK - DECEMBER 9: Guardian Angels attend a press conference announcing the implementation of patrols in Puerto Rico at Guardian Angels headquarters December 9, 2003 in New York City. Started in 1979 by Curtis Sliwa, the Guardian Angels were originally a vigilante response to the then rampant crime in New York City. With chapters around the world and violent crime down around the country, the Guardian Angels are having a come back in many urban areas as citizens become increasingly tired of quality of life crimes, such as prostitution and drug dealing. Sliwa said the group will work in Puerto Rico as a thank-you to the many Puerto Ricans that have become Guardian Angels over the years. (Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images)

I was just sitting down to trawl for content, and TTAG beat me to this one. As we have documented, there have been a rash of subway-slashings in the Big Apple.

“Monday’s attack makes seven subway slashings this year, Gainer reported. According to the NYPD, so far for this year, there have been 365 slashings and stabbings citywide. For the same time last year, there were 305 — a 19.67 percent increase.” (From:

In the latest incident, 37 year-old  Steven Braithwaite was acting strangely on the platform, before boarding the train and attacking a male passenger.

“As CBS2’s Alice Gainer reported, a 30-year-old man is recovering after being slashed with a knife while on a No. 3 train Monday around 12:40 p.m.

Police said a suspect in the case, 37-year-old Stephen Braithwaite, has been arrested and charged.

Police said the victim was standing with a friend on the Pennsylvania Avenue platform when he saw Braithwaite walking back and forth.

The victim told police Braithwaite asked him what he was looking at, challenged him to a fight, threw coffee at him and then slashed him on the chin with a pocket knife once they got on the 3 train.”

Since the law-abiding folks of NYC are prohibited from carrying virtually any tool of self defense, and many that are simply utilitarian tools as well, this rash of attacks has left the citizenry with few options.

In fact, things have gotten so bad that the Guardian Angels have begun to patrol the subways – the first time since 1994. It is ironic that Mayor DiBlasio’s “Progressive” policies are taking New York back to the halcyon days of Travis Bickle.
