Australia needs common sense kangaroo control.

Sevdet Beslam faces multiple terror charges for plotting to use a kangaroo in a suicide attack.

Having achieved their wet-dream of common-sense gun confiscation,  hoplophobes in the land down under are going to need to broaden their net to include cars, knives, and even kangaroos. A Melbourne teen was arrested for plotting a holiday attack on police which would have included running an officer down with his car and beheading said officer before moving on to his piece de resistance. Sevdet Ramadan Besim planned on packing a kangaroo’s pouch with C4 and painting it with an Islamic State symbol before using it in a “suicide” attack on police.

In a prosecution summary against Mr Besim tendered to court, police allege the pair spoke on March 16 last year, during which they discussed packing a kangaroo with explosives and letting it loose on police.

“The conversation continues with Besim detailing what he did that day and they have a general discussion around animals and wildlife in Australia, including a suggestion that a kangaroo could be packed with C4 explosive, painted with the IS symbol and let loose on police officers,” the summary says.

While police did not go into details of the symbol, the image mostly closely linked to IS is the group’s black flag.

It sounds like this guy was a loser who had delusions of grandeur. However, it demonstrates the insidious threat posed by ISIS online recruiting efforts. While this plot was a dud, it won’t take much prompting before the entire western world could face a Knife Intifada such as Israel is facing. So far, attacks like the Nebraska beheading or even San Bernadino have been sporadic and disorganized. I doubt that this will always be the case.

There is no hope of ever removing all “dangerous” implements (or kangaroos) from a free society. The ideologies and individuals who would perpetrate these acts are what are dangerous. Tools are only as dangerous as the motivation of the wielder.

Editor’s note: By sheer coincidence, this post by Chris from January 2014 is spiking today. It happens to be an Incendiary Image from Australia. It is topical, but I couldn’t figure out a good way to weave it into the above narrative, so I just added it here.
