It’s fairly easy to book the odds when a fight turns into a knife fight: the guy with the knife almost always wins, and the guy without the knife frequently dies. The knife guy loses now and then, but these exceptions don’t invalidate the rule. When two people fight each other with knives both of them will be badly hurt, and the added desperation of the struggle seems to lead to an even higher likelihood of death for the loser.
An unusual knife fight took place in Pomona, CA last weekend. Unusual because 1) it took place between relatives; and 2) nobody was critically injured, and 3) the fighters were Uma Thurman and Vivica Fox. Okay, I’m just kidding about that last part.
Authorities responding to a call about a possible stabbing found two Pomona men — family members — had repeatedly stabbed each other during a fight. Police were called to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of S. Park Avenue just after 5:50 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities said both men suffered non-life threatening cuts but that each sustained multiple stab wounds. Officials said both of the men produced knives.
The stabbing victims were identified as Gilbert Alcantera, 23, and Erik Soto, 33. Both men are Pomona residents.
Two stabbed and nobody dead? That’s an atypical outcome for a knife fight, but we’ll take it because it gives both of these losers the chance to live and learn from their mistakes.
The cause of the fight remains a mystery, according to police. May we suggest…drugs and alcohol? A romantic rivalry over the same cousin?
