Editor’s Note: Jumping The Gun

As the Managing Editor of The Truth About Knives, I’d like to send out a warm welcome to all of you who have discovered us here. Our plan and mission is to bring you timely and topical news about ‘all things slicey, stabby and choppy,’ along with no-holds-barred knife and gear reviews. As our name suggests, we’re a companion site to www.thetruthaboutguns.com, and we’re out to build the same reputation for honesty.

I’ve been one of the regular stable of writers over there for years, and I jumped at the chance to write about all the knives and other tools that Farago didn’t want ‘polluting the brand’ over at TTAG. Now we can write about all the knives we want (and so can you!) without having to put a picture of a Sig/Sauer P226 at the end of every story.

We were planning to take the site live  two days from now, but somehow it lurched into life and started gathering momentum all by itself. As I sign off for the evening, I notice that we’re rapidly approaching 3,000 pageviews, which is pretty good for a blog that isn’t officially up and running yet.

I know there are many of you with bigger knife collections than my own modest cutlery drawer, and I’m absolutely certain that many of you are experts on steels and heat treatments whose knowledge I may never approach.

If you’re one of these people, I want you to join our crew here at The Truth About Knives. Please email me at thetruthaboutknives@gmail.com with any breaking news, review requests, or article submissions.

Thanks again for stopping by, and I sure hope you’ll come back soon!

I have a lot of knives. But I’m not an expert. Just an amateur with a love of guns and edged weapons. Steels and heat treatments are out of my league. But I’m always willing to learn by reading these articles. Look forward to them.

  2. 2hotel9 says:

Long before Gibbs codified his rules I was taught to always have edged steel on me. And a source of fire, but that is another blog all together. I don’t fall into the category of “expert”, I have just spent my life carrying and using blades. A veritable testament to Rule 9. Looking forward to many excellent posts on the subject that is, always, near and dear to me.

  3. Aharon says:

Congratulations on your new role as managing editor. I’ve enjoyed all your posts at TTAG and I’m looking forward to visiting this site and reading about knives.

  4. Steiney says:

I’m not a knife aficionado by any means, just a admirer of fine tools. To me, a good knife is like an extension of the person. I’m looking forward to seeing some good material here. I’ve enjoyed the content of TTAG thus far, and I’m always open to new ideas and reviews.

  5. 2hotel9 says:

Hey,Chris! You have had a post disappear. The one on cleaning of your kitchen cutlery. Is wordpress already being twitchy?

    1. Robert Farago says:

Nope the post sucked. I wrote it. I killed it.

      1. 2hotel9 says:

Ah, it weren’t that bad! Proper care of is just as important as proper use of and proper handling of, a point I hammer on with people all the time. Buying lots of ammo does no good if you don’t buy items to care for that weapon, and know how to. Same for blades. Just a bit simpler.

A post on care of would be nice, the art of sharpening being one that eludes many people, and re-emphasizing the virtues of hot water and soap is always a good thing.

  6. DeWeezy says:

TTAG as been my go to source for all firearms related news. It’s allowed me to become a better and informed member of the culture. I’m just re-igniting my love of all things blades and the timing couldn’t be better. I look forward to discovering the many facets of knives and blades through the same sharp reporting and Op-ed pieces that TTAG is so well respected for.

    Best of luck!

  7. Pat says:

I love the ol’ pointy/sharpy/knifey thingy.
