FSU Student kills couple; tries to “bite face off husband”

A 19 year-old Florida State student has been arrested though not formally charged with a stabbing attack that killed a couple and injured a neighbor who had tried to intervene. As if a random triple-stabbing were not depraved enough, when officers arrived, Austin Kelly Harrouff was attempting to bite off one victims face.

From WBIR.com:

Officials got a 911 call about 9:20 p.m. Monday from a man, later determined to be a neighbor who lived across the street from the couple’s home, who said he had been stabbed.

“He had gotten injured attempting to intervene in the assault that he saw taking place,” Snyder said.

A sheriff deputy arrived after about 10 minutes because that part of the county is cut off from patrol zones, Snyder said.

The deputy found Harrouff on top of Stevens, who was lying on the driveway leading to the garage. Mishcon was in the garage.

“(The deputy) realized that the offender was actually biting the victim in the face and causing what turned out to be some substantial trauma to his face from bite marks,” Snyder said.

The deputy used a Taser on Harrouff, but it didn’t work. The deputy tried to pull Harrouff off, “but he was exhibiting abnormal levels of strength,” Snyder said. Harrouff wasn’t wearing a shirt, and Snyder described him as fairly muscular.

Two more deputies arrived within a few minutes and tried to help the deputy already on scene.

“Nothing was working,” Snyder said. “They were using all the force that they were able to muster physically.”

Tequesta and Jupiter police departments helped sheriff’s officials, Snyder said, and a Tequesta police K-9 was used on Harrouff to get him off Stevens. Officials eventually were able to remove Harrouff, who sustained a bite from the police K-9.

Snyder said he wouldn’t be surprised if Harrouff had Flakka or bath salts in his system, but officials won’t know for sure until they get toxicology results from the hospital.

Police reportedly hesitated to shoot Harrouff because they did not know that the Husband was dead and were afraid of an errant shot. I am surprised that being this taking place in Florida that no one was able to bring a firearm to the scene ahead of the 10 minute police response.

Dog’s lives matter to. I hope the dog at least got the rest of the day off and was checked out by a good vet.

I was born and raised in FL, but have not lived their in thirty years. I hope I no longer qualify as “Florida Man”.
