Masked Machete Bandit Gets No Love In San Diego

If you need to rob a gas station (and need I say that’s a mighty big “if”?) there are some things you don’t want to do. First you don’t want to knock over a Mini-Mart just a mile from your crib. You also don’t do it in daylight, you don’t drive your own car, and you don’t drive straight home afterwards.

The fact that you’re carrying a machete doesn’t help either.

From the San Diego Union-Tribune:

RANCHO BERNARDO — San Diego police arrested a man suspected of robbing a Rancho Bernardo gas station who was a wearing a ski mask and brandishing a machete Tuesday morning.

The thief, 21-year old Alexander Scott Brill, walked into the Shell gas station on Rancho Bernardo Road at Pomerado Road at 8:15 a.m. and demanded cash, San Diego police said. He then got into a light blue Honda CRV and headed east, police said. Brill did not successfully take any cash from the gas station, San Diego police Lt. Kevin Mayer

The car was located minutes later less than a mile away at a home in Poway on Avenida la Valencia. The man, who was taken into custody around 9:40 a.m, is being charged with robbery, Mayer said.

Brill’s car was a late-model CRV, and the house he returned to was a detached single-family home. 21-year olds with money problems don’t own all these nice things by themselves, so I’m guessing that Brill lives with his family, and might be a few eggs shy of a dozen.
