Oklahoma Knife Freedom Day: Switchblades legal; Knife-law preemption in effect

Happy Oklahoma Knife Freedom Day!

Knife Rightscontinues its mission to rewrite knife laws, one state at a time. Bills creating knife-law preemption and repealing the switchblade ban in Oklahoma go into effect today, November 1st.  There are still a few classes of prohibited knives that will be the target of future efforts. Momentum is on our side. Keep up the pressure.

Any Oklahoma readers want to share your plans for new kit as a result of your newly-restored freedom?

From KnifeRights.org (via AmmoLand):

Gilbert, AZ –-(Ammoland.com)- October 30, 2015 – Gilbert, Arizona: Knife Rights’ Oklahoma Knife Law Preemption bill, HB 1460, takes effect November 1st.

Combined with Knife Rights’ Oklahoma Switchblade Carry Ban Repeal bill, HB 1911, that also takes effect November 1st, preemption ensures that switchblade carriers will not have to deal with local restrictions on switchblades and that possession of all knives will be legal throughout the state.

Daggers, bowie knives and dirks are still prohibited from general carry in Oklahoma. Knife Rights still has some clean-up work to do in Oklahoma, but enactment of these two bills this year is a huge step forward for Oklahomans.

Knife Law Preemption repeals and prevents local ordinances more restrictive than state law which only serve to confuse or entrap law-abiding citizens traveling within or through the state. Preemption ensures citizens can expect consistent enforcement of state knife laws everywhere in a state.

Knife Rights passed the nation’s first Knife Law Preemption bill in Arizona in 2010 and has since passed preemption bills in Alaska, Georgia, Kansas, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Utah.

Okie resident. I still carry my ZT0560. I might switch it up with an Opinel No. 8 that I just got yesterday, obviously not exactly in response to the changes in law.

But, once in a while, this state can get something right.
