SHOT Show: Hands-On With The Medford Praetorian

Image: Chris Dumm for TTAK

If you had to cut your way into an M1 tank with a folding knife, Medford Knife & Tool’s monstrous Praetorian would be the one. Because this razor-sharp titanium-handled folding crowbar is no ordinary folding knife.

The Praetorian’s 3.75″ blade is wrought from .19″ thick D2, in either a drop-point or the tanto point shown here. The frame-lock titanium grip is a gnarly .7″ thick. The Praetorian weighs a staggering 9.1 ounces, and it costs…well, that’s pretty staggering too.

The base model runs $700 even, but Greg Medford is also known for his custom knives so just about anything is possible if you’ve the time and money. One popular upgrade is S35VN blade steel, if for some reason you don’t think D2 is tough enough.

  1. Sam L. says:

    I don’t need one.

  2. Roy says:

In a pinch, you can use that thing as a boat anchor.

  3. bill says:

EDC for JGG (Jolly Green Giant)

  4. Matt in FL says:

That’s kinda ridiculous, and I totally want one.

    Check out this video:

Apparently once the shop floor guys have been there a year, they get to pick out a company knife and spec it out any way they want. He shows a couple of those knives in the video above, as well as some others that make me salivate. The multi-colored blade treatments are ridiculous.

  5. Mike L says:

Gotta take a look at the great Gil Hibben designs. His Elmer Keith is a classic of the over built monster cutters. LOL. Damm I still hanker for that EK.
