South Carolina Student expelled for forgetting knife in truck.

A South Carolina student has been expelled for forgetting a fishing knife in his truck

Zero tolerance lunacy strikes again. This time in South Carolina, where 16-year old Chandler Helms forgot a small fishing knife in the bed of his truck, was reported to authorities, dragged out of class, and ultimately expelled for not actually posing a danger to anyone. Way to go Superintendent Pew. Your inability to exhibit critical thought makes you unqualified for the position to which you have been entrusted.

His mistake was leaving a 4-inch fishing knife in his truck in the parking lot at Northwestern High School on Jan. 20. He was stunned when an administrator confronted him about it.

“He said, ‘There’s a weapon in your tailgate,’ and I said, ‘You got to be kidding me, man. There’s not a weapon back there,’” the student said.

The knife was wedged under some pieces of wood in the rear of the bed. Helms enjoys hunting and fishing.

He was sent home and after a hearing four days later, he learned he was expelled.

Expulsion for this kind of offense is for the remainder of the school year.

That means Helms can’t transfer to any other school this year either, even out of state, or take classes online.

As usual, the District issued a boilerplate response:

“It is our policy to ensure the safety and welfare of students and employees. The presence of a knife with a blade length of more than two inches on school district property poses a severe threat of series harm or injury to students and staff. While on school grounds, students will not possess any item capable of inflicting injury or harm to persons or property when that item is not used in relation to a normal school activity at a scheduled time for the student. No vehicles parked on school property may contain knives or other items which are generally considered to be weapons. Students found in violation of this policy are recommended for expulsion and have a right to appeal the district’s decision.”

Never let common sense get in the way of ruining a child’s life. Shame on Superintendent Kelly Pew and Deputy Superintendent Tony Cox. You are cowards for not standing up for your pupils.

reads like he got in trouble for not having it with him for his home ec assignment.
but no, it’s admin gone full ______ again.

I’ve seen more people killed with fists than knives. While I recognize that my anecdotal experiences do not necessarily reflect reality, they do seem to indicate that it’s not that ‘weapon’ that is the problem; it’s the person and what they’re doing.

  3. This is a very weird situation. Education is the key. It’s really true. But sometimes I don’t have time to write a dissertation, so I ask professionals do it for me. Thus, I have free time and I can rest.
