Sword Does Not Beat Car. Just, Like, In Case You Were Wondering.

An upstate NY man (not shown) learned that attacking a car with a Japanese-style sword is not an effective way to de-escalate an argument, nor to win it. It’s not completely rhetorically useless, though: if it doesn’t get you shot by the police (there being very few armed victims in New York State) it’s a great conversation-starter while you’re in jail waiting for trial. From the New York Post:

A Lewis County man faces several charges after police say he repeatedly struck a car with a Samurai sword while a family member was inside it.

Lewis County Sheriff’s deputies tell the Utica Observer-Dispatch that 48-year-old Robert Mosley of Port Leyden was involved in a domestic dispute Saturday night and struck the car to stop the person from driving away. The vehicle’s rear window was shattered.

Mosley was charged with criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and menacing.

He was arraigned and jailed on $1,000 bail or $2,000 bond.

Port Leyden is a tiny former canal town in northern New York State, with a population of 655 and a median household income of $24,000, and that’s pretty tight rations for Port Leyden’s average household size of 2.5 people. This probably makes for a pretty sad story behind the Mosley family’s problems.

Tell me again about Samurai swords cutting thru gun barrels!

I don’t know about gun barrels, but they sure do work
      well in delis.

Actual folded-steel handbuilt Katanas? Maybe. But a ‘katana’ from Excalibur or the Home Shopping Channel can barely cut a fart, let alone a car’s A-pillar.

I seem to remember myth busters doing a segment on katana’s cutting a browning air cooled machine guns barrel. Don’t remember enough of the details and I’m too fracking lazy to google search it.

One of the commenters complained that
the sword was probably a modern machine
made weapon. However, as another points outs,
unless someone is willing to pony up the cash
for a traditionally made one to test, the myth is

Median income of 24 grand. Wonder how much of his families meager median income did he drink in alcohol before going all chop socky on the car?

A loser is a loser in spite of his income levels.
