The cause of death: “Severance”

A young-man’s decapitated head was found on a Jackson, Mississippi porch, in what appears to be a gang-related murder.

(A neighbor) said she just had to go somewhere else. There was a severed head just sitting on her neighbor’s porch. She didn’t know whose head it was, but she couldn’t stay either way.

Other neighbors gathered and dispersed intermittently, and none of them wanted their name or face in media reports of the incident.

“Someone’s sending a message,” one man said. “Why else do you do that?”

The head, Jackson Police Department spokesman Cmdr. Tyree Jones said, was that of a young black male who has not yet been identified.

The cause of death, he said, appeared to be “severance.”

A badly burned body was later discovered in a wooded residential area off Green Street near the corner of Grand Avenue — about a half-mile to a mile away. A resident using the road had spotted the body, Jones said. While the body was that of a black male, and it’s likely part of the same case, confirmation is still awaiting autopsy results.

This is above and beyond your average gangland killing. Sad though it may be to say, a drive-by seldom makes front page news. Decapitation is a whole new level of intensity. It is more a trademark of internationally-connected gangs, or so I believe. Not a typical occurrence, so I thought it was worth a mention on these pages.

If I had to come up with a relevant point it would be this. The perpetrator of this act has a heart of pure evil. Does anyone honestly think that weapons laws are going to stop or dissuade such an individual? All they do is infringe upon the God-given rights of the honest citizenry, making it more difficult to defend themselves against evil such as Jackson witnessed.

It’s the “leaving it on the porch” that gets me. That smacks of a statement.

So sad. I’m sure that there are a lot of friends and family that will miss this child. May God rest their souls and bring justice.
