TTAK Six-Month Review: Thank You!

A little more than six months ago, The Truth About Knives went live (a few weeks ahead of plan) and started bringing you all the knife news, politics and reviews we could get our hands on. Since then we’ve generated dozens of knife reviews and feature articles, and we’ve spotlighted dozens more knives that we haven’t yet gotten our hands on. This is our core mission, and we’ve got several more knife reviews in the works as I write this.

We gave away a couple of Mora knives early on, and then outdid ourselves by giving away a brand-new FNS 9mm handgun in our massively successful contest. On a sillier note we’ve also brought you some goofy YouTube videos, plenty of stupid stabbings du jour. We’ve journeyed frequently to the Darkest Depths Of Uselessness, and brought you all the knife politics we can find. Too bad about those new TSA rules…

And we hope you’ve enjoyed it. Clearly some of you have, and you know who you are. Our readership went from nada to well over 100,000 pageviews per month, and we even grabbed the Brass Ring of independent blogdom a handful of times when our articles got picked up by Instapundit.

Here are some of our statistics as of this afternoon:

  • 470 posts published.
  • 648,000 total pageviews.
  • 3,333 comments posted.
  • <10 deleted (flame) comments. This is a troll/flame rate of less than 0.33%, or could be described as a politeness/wittiness/awesomeness rate of 99.6%. Well done!

The next six months will be even better, as we work to bulk up our back catalog of knife reviews. I don’t know what they’ll be yet, but there will also be more contests to come.

The TTAG crew and I will blitz the Las Vegas SHOT Show in January, which is a Mecca for knife and gear guys. I know it’s more than six months out, but Clay Aalders and I are also heading to Atlanta in June to cover the 2014 Blade Show. That will be awesome.

Thanks to all of you for reading and commenting and making us the success we are. There’s much more where this came from!

All of my comments have been flames. I’m just not very good at it.

    Good on ya.

Been liking you from the start, and love those nuggets of youtubism that you find. I point people here as often as I can and have linked a couple of your posts in emails to my less than computer savvy brethren. Even bragged you up at sayanythingblog, though they are politics junkies some of the regulars come by to check y’all out from time to time.

  3. Paul B says:

Interesting stuff. Whats not to like. Since you guys like Mora’s, you can’t be all bad.

  4. Ducky says:

I’ve purchased 3 knives including my first and second Moras based on TTAK recommendations and reviews. Keep up the good work Chris.

  5. Mark Davis says:

Nice work TTAK – Keep it up!

By the way – Mora should be thanking you guys, I too have bought some of ’em based on the strength of your reviews.

  6. Sam L. says:

Me, too, on the Mora. I’d been thinking about one for some years.

  7. I_Like_Pie says:

Mora should really, really consider putting you on the payroll.

You have sold a lot of their knives.

  8. sagebrushracer says:

Been enjoying your content. I got a spyderco endura lightweight with a FFG based on the info provided here, have never been happier with a working knife.

Also, everyone who needs a working knife/toolbox/tackle box/glove box knife are gonna get a mora for Christmas this year. including one for myself.

    Keep spreading the good word.

  9. I_Like_Pie says:

On another note since I know you will read it…You guys should do some easy reviews on knife skills. I don’t mean gi joe stuff….more like filleting, batoning, feathering, the basics of knife safety, different uses for kitchen cutlery.

There is a TON of stuff that you can cover if you think (I hate this term) “Outside the box.” Remember the subject matter is only the most historically useful tool known to mandkind.

  10. Daniel says:

Great job and best of luck! Stay sharp.

  11. JaredFromTampa says:

Love the site, keep up the good work guys!

  12. Steve In MA says:

Great stuff Chris and crew. Bought 3 knives based on your reviews, a mora, a crkt persian, and a crkt tuition. Keep it up.
