Stephen Colbert is a knife criminal. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. hasn’t shown any inclination to actually prosecute Mr. Colbert alongside the 60,000
subjects citizens who have been prosecuted in the last decade. He was first caught on video in 2010 wielding a spring-assisted Benchmade, which New York City unjustly considers a switchblade.
Scofflaw Colbert is back again, this time with an actual switchblade. It appears to me to be a Microtech Ultratech OTF, or something quite similar. He discusses the recent legalization of switchblades in Wisconsin (along with knife law preemption), and whips out the knife for dramatic effect. Jump to 5:40 for the section on switchblades.
Of course we don’t believe Mr. Colbert should be prosecuted for anything because we don’t believe anyone should face prosecution for knife possession- though the double standard is as striking as it was in the David Gregory standard capacity magazine hypocrisy.
Libertarians have a saying, “Don’t hurt people, and don’t take their stuff”. So long as any tool is not being misused to do one of those things, no crime is being committed. Any legal ramifications are unjust harassment of law-abiding citizens who are exercising their God-given right to bear whatever tools that they wish.
