Jihadi knife attack at Minn. mall wounds nine

I was just thinking to myself how little coverage the multiple bombings in New York and New Jersey were getting in the national news as I dug around the interwebs. That is when I read (via Drudge) that a likely jihadi went on a stabbing-spree Saturday night at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota before being shot dead by an off duty police officer.

From AP.org:

A man in a private security uniform stabbed nine people at a Minnesota shopping mall, reportedly mentioning Allah and asking at least one victim if they were Muslim before an off-duty police officer shot and killed him, authorities said.

All nine victims – seven men, a woman and a 15-year-old girl – were treated at hospitals for wounds that weren’t life-threatening, St. Cloud police Chief Blair Anderson said at a news conference Sunday. Three remained hospitalized. The others were released.

The attack happened at around 8 p.m. Saturday at the Crossroads Center in St. Cloud, a city of about 65,000 people 60 miles (95 kilometers) northwest of Minneapolis.

A man in a security uniform and armed with a knife entered the mall and stabbed people in several locations, including corridors, businesses and common areas, the chief said.

Five minutes after authorities received the first 911 call, Jason Falconer, a part-time officer in the city of Avon, shot and killed the attacker, whose name hasn’t been released. Anderson said Falconer fired as the attacker was lunging at him with the knife, and continued to engage him as the attacker got up three times.

“He clearly prevented additional injuries and potential loss of life,” Anderson said.

“Officer Falconer was there at the right time and the right place,” he said.

Anderson earlier said the man reportedly made at least one reference to Allah and asked a victim if they were Muslim before attacking them.

I know that I have been burned in the past by leaping on the jihad-train as motive for some attacks that turned out not to be, but the details included above, plus the fact that ISIS is calling the attacker “a soldier of Allah” makes me feel fairly safe in saying this one walks like a duck.

More details to come if warranted.

Me and several guys at work(yes we are working this weekend) were just talking about the minimal coverage on the Saturday attacks. Are politics that much more important than terrorist attacks? Normally the media is all over this kind of stuff.

” Normally the media is all over this kind of stuff.” And often with a wet blanket. Or the official statements are wet-blanket statements.
