The state motto of Virginia is “Sic semper tyrannis” or “thus always to tyrants”. Governor McAuliffe recently vetoed the bill restoring his citizen’s right to carry an automatic knife, and yet is all in favor of restoring voting rights to convicted felons. Perhaps that is because he might be one someday. One can only hope that one day karma catches up with this hoplophobic tyrant, but alas that day was not yesterday. The effort to override the veto in the Virginia legislature failed, though this was not surprising.
From Knife Rights:
An effort yesterday to override Virginia Governor McAuliffe’s veto of House Bill 1432 failed. That bill would have repealed Virginia’s switchblade ban including, for the most part, allowing concealed carry. This was the unfortunately predictable outcome based on our assessment of the politics in the Virginia legislature. Even if the override had somehow succeeded in passing the House, despite the odds against it, the effort would certainly have failed in the Senate.
Knife Rights supported this bill even though we had concerns with the language. Unfortunately, despite everyone’s best efforts it failed. Knife Rights remains committed to repealing Virginia’s switchblade ban. We look forward to working with all stakeholders during the 2018 session of the Virginia General Assembly to repeal this onerous and outdated knife ban.
Knife Rights’ bill to remove the ban on switchblade (automatic) knives in Minnesota, HF2567, has been introduced by Representative Joe Hoppe. The bill would remove “a switch blade knife opening automatically” from Minnesota statute 609.66(1).
Knife Rights will keep you posted on the bill’s progress and let you know when it is time to take action.
Knife Rights is rewriting knife law in America™. Knife Rights has repealed switchblade bans in Alaska, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Missouri, New Hampshire, Nevada, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
Knife Rights’ Knife Owners’ Protection Act of 2017, H.R. 84, including repeal of the Federal Switchblade Act, has been introduced in Congress. It would repeal all restrictions on interstate commerce in switchblade (automatic) knives. We could use your help in getting co-sponsors for KOPA. There is only one solution in Virginia and that is to get out the vote this November, 2017, throughout the Commonwealth. The Bloomberg proxies have to go. While McAwful can’t run again (consecutive terms aren’t allowed in Virginia), the entire Democrat party of Virginia is deeply indebted to Bloomberg and his ilk and will continue to push his oppressive agenda.
Primary elections are June 13, 2017. Virginia has open primaries but you only get to vote on one party’s slate. The choices are:
Democrat Party
Ralph Northam, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and, for the past four years, the deciding vote in the evenly split Senate, giving McAwful the tie-breaker to push his anti-freedom agenda.
Tom Perriello, former U.S. Representative, diplomat and Obama ally.
Republican Party
Ed Gillespie, former Chairman of the Republican National Committee and nominee for the U.S. Senate in 2014
Frank Wagner, State Senator
Corey Stewart, Chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors and candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 2013
The main election will be November 7, 2017. Mark it on your calendar because it really, really matters this year. Let’s try to restore Virginia to a freedom-loving state!
