Pit-bull dies saving family from knife-attack

A Florida woman, Lisa Potts credits her pit-bull Lucy with saving her life and those of her sons. Lucy gave her life in the process.

From TheDodo.com:

On Friday, Potts came home to find her ex-boyfriend, Walter Williams, inside. First, Williams started hitting her, says Potts. Then he grabbed a knife. That’s when Lucy sprang into action.

“Lucy lunged at him and he caught her right in the neck,” Potts told WBBH-TV. “She still was fighting him, and that’s when all three of my sons jumped on Walter and held him down to the ground.”

One of Potts’ sons was hurt in the struggle, but Lucy suffered far more serious injuries, getting stabbed three times.

“Once I got her downstairs I just asked someone for a towel and applied [as] much pressure as I could to it to try to save her life,” said Potts. “I kept just trying to be happy and calling her name and ‘come on, Lucy, come on.'”

Despite Potts’ efforts, however, Lucy went into cardiac arrest on Saturday and died.

“She was a fighter and she did good, she really did,” Potts told WINK News. “If it wasn’t for her, you know, he could’ve probably stabbed all of us.”

There is nothing like the loyalty of a good dog. Raise a bowl of kibble to this brave canine. The wrong animal perished in this attack.

From the day I put the coller on you I was yours and you were mine.
You wore that coller proud while you trotted at my side.
The coller showed the love we had between this dog and I; I dreaded the distant time i knew you’d go the by and by.
Little did we know that day your coller would be red, or that I’d catch me wishing it were me instead was dead.
I thought the coller would be older, on my mantle, dry; a fond remembrance of 20 years, you trotting at my side.
When evil came into our home and tried to end my life, You, brave dog! instead, were the one to catch the knife.
Tonight our tears will fall on you and make your coller wet. We scream and plead and beg the damp eyed, somber looking vet.
Tomorrow you are gone from me, empty coller in my hand. Which of us had ever thought your end would be so grand.
I thank you for saving all the life that I have yet to plan. Know in that life your coller will be ever close at hand.

Hail to the brave and noble souls everywhere that are willing to give everything to save those they love.
